Parents FAQ

Q. I am worried about the Greek life stereotypes.
Sororities defy the stereotypes often associated with them, offering a multifaceted experience beyond common misconceptions. Alpha Xi Delta is committed to providing opportunities that allow each member to realize her potential through leadership development, philanthropic involvement, educational workshops, and relationship building. Greek organizations do hold social events, but most of these do not involve alcohol. These events include Parents Weekend, Sisterhood activities, community service opportunities, and chapter retreats. Alpha Xi Delta also offers platforms for professional networking, mentorship, and career development.

Q. What is hazing and does Alpha Xi Delta haze?
Hazing is when any person or group inflicts or intends to inflict physical or mental harm to another individual. Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity, as well as most universities, has zero tolerance for hazing. Chapters found guilty of hazing may lose University recognition and their members may face possible legal ramifications.

Q. What is the time commitment for Alpha Xi Delta?
Alpha Xi Delta provides numerous resources and a structured environment that fosters academic excellence through various means. The chapter's Academic Achievement Director is responsible for hosting study groups, facilitating academic programs, and connecting Sisters in similar majors. This officer also introduces members to on-campus resources and various academic advisors. Alpha Xi Delta creates a supportive community that values education and empowers members to reach their academic goals.

Q. If my daughter joins a sorority, how will her academics be supported?
Alpha Xi Delta has resources available to help your daughter academically. Greek membership offers scholarship programs that may include study partners, study hours, and time management and study skill workshops. Students can also access the network of chapter members who already know how to use campus resources like the library, study skills center, computer labs and academic advisors. Nothing, however, can take the place of a disciplined and academically-focused student to ensure success in college.
